Play Based Learning: It's Not Just for Kids

The 3Dux team was honored to speak at the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club on Valentine's Day, sharing our love for supporting children through education and empowerment. As we also believe strongly in learning by doing, this was not a typical Sunrise Rotary Club meeting.

The group got a real taste for 3Dux as they were divided into teams, each group given a separate challenge. They got 3DuxDesign and recycled cardboard, 3Dux connectors, some up-cycled odds and ends and a challenge card depicting the type of house they should build.

This team's assignment was, "create a medieval castle with a working drawbridge"  They made  levers and pulleys,  appreciating how simple machines and physics can be used to solve problems in the real word. They were quite proud of the design and we were happy they made good use some of the materials and artwork from the Burr Elementary School 3rd grade class.

The Westport Sunrise Rotary has a number of architect members and this team was lucky to have the professional expertise of a well known architect who has been featured on ABC Extreme Home Makeovers. They designed the perfect tiny home that can be disassembled for move.

Here are some other homes the teams created...

This group designed an open-air minimalist vacation home

Smart homes with satellites

With  journalists in the group, some folks took the opportunity to use the exterior of the home for sharing the vision of the community. "We all live, eat, smile, play, work, connect, laugh, sing, die"

This assignment was to create a Thai style river home but the real estate agent on this team felt that calling it a "waterfront beach home" would increase the value for selling

This design miraculously changed the laws of geometry, making a five sided yurt using 120 degree connectors. They added a hole in the roof for smoke from the hearth.

Visiting the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club was pure enjoyment and the 3Dux team had a chance to meet everyone and learn more about the organization, whose members aim to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through their fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.
